Lifes Ambition
Life’s ambition (2 Tim215 )
Suppose you were challenged with the question “What is your ambition in life?” and it was necessary that you responded – would you have an answer ready?
And it is an important question – since life is immeasurably precious – and so vulnerable. Inexorably, each stage will pass and opportunities can so easily be overlooked. “Only one life- ‘twill soon be past…” It is vital that we discover – not just a purpose – but the purpose- that God has for us in our lives.
The only boyhood scene of the life of Christ 1– shows that at the age of twelve – He had a clear purpose – “Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?“.
Some twenty years on in His ministry – He tells us why He had come.
In His perfect sinless life, He showed what God was like 2 – He called men to repentance3 and to personal faith in Himself 4.. With compassion and healing, He rescued broken lives and established relationships with Himself 5.
He had “come to seek and to save that which was lost”.6;
He had come “not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.” 7 On the Cross, He ‘bore our sins’. He’ suffered ‘– He ‘paid the price’, so that – as we receive Him as the Lord of our lives, we are forgiven, and brought into a living relationship with Him – and discover true purpose and ambition.for our own lives.
As the Lord Jesus said “I am come that they might have life– life in all its fulness” 8
In the Gospels, the Lord Jesus is pictured not only as the Good Shepherd “Who ‘gives His life for the sheep” 9 – but also as the Shepherd that
goes after the sheep which is lost, until He finds it 10 – and then brings it home..
This is a picture of His persistence of care and His love for such as ourselves – it is also of assurance of Heaven for the believer when this life is past.
If the reader has never taken the all important step of personal faith -there is a challenge and a promise encouraging us in our quest.
“ Seek ye the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near:
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for
He will abundantly pardon”. Isa 556-7
“And ye shall seek Me, and find Me when ye shall search for Me with all your
heart.” Jer 2913
